Tom Doctoroff is a globally renowned business leader and brand builder. He is also one of the world’s foremost experts on culture-driven marketing, Chinese consumer behavior, and the Asian commercial landscape. He is currently Chief Cultural Insight Guru and Global Executive Brand Advisor at the global brand and marketing consultancy Prophet. Doctoroff rose to become the CEO of J. Walter Thompson (JWT), one of the world’s largest global marketing and communications companies. He is one of Asia’s most respected advertising professionals. His unique combination of pan-Asian work, plus almost two decades based in China, has made him an expert in the cross-border management of brand architecture and brand building.
He has worked with top multinational corporations such as Unilever, Ford, HSBC, Ford, Mattel and Kellogg and Asian companies including Singapore Tourism Board, Nikon, Unicharm and San Miguel. In China, Tom has partnered with leading local enterprises including Lenovo, China Unicom, 999 pharmaceuticals, Yili dairy, Anta sporting apparel and Alibaba.
He began his China career with J. Walter Thompson in 1994 in Hong Kong and later in Shanghai, where from 2002 he served as Greater China CEO and Northeast Asia Director. From 2012 to 2016, he served as CEO of Asia Pacific for JWT, after which he concluded his long period in Asia by returning to the United States
